What is your favorite thing to do with your pet?

With Steeler I love to play with him and his toy. But I also love to give him a back massage. He LOVES that.

Is this normal?

When do dogs usually go gray?
Myko is my first dog, so I'm learning as I go...
He's only 4 1/2, but I noticed right around when he turned 4 that he's starting to go gray, just his face so far. I really hope that it's not indicative of a shorter life span
My little sweetie snuggles with his huge stuffed bear

Does your dog hide toys or bones around the house?

I know that this is normal behavior for dogs but Basil's never done this before. But yesterday we gave him a new chewy bone and he keeps pushing into corners, under furniture, etc. And then he rubs his muzzle on the floor to push "dirt" on top of it. I know this is something that a lot of dogs do instinctively but he's never done it before so I find it hilarious.

I need doggy advice.

So Basil has been a little bastard lately. He just will Not. Stop. Barking.

Our living room is on the 4th floor of our building and our deck is off the room. Every time he hears another dog barking in the neighborhood (there are a lot of 'em), or a siren, or church bells, or a car door slam, or whatever, he goes apesh*t. He runs out onto the deck and barks his little ass off. If the sliding glass door is closed, he just sits near there and barks.

It's driving us nuts. We can't figure out how to get him to stop. We yell at him and he knows he's not supposed to do it, but it still won't stop him.

I kind of thought about getting an anti-bark collar but I think that the shock collars are unnecessarily cruel. And I hear that the citronella collars don't work too well because after a while, the dog gets used to the burst of oil.

Has anyone dealt with this? Any suggestions?

"WOOF!
Kids & Pets - When to add a dog?

When our son was born, we had two dogs, but they were old, old, old and both passed away in the past year. He "met" them both, but they mostly lived outside, and he didn't interact with them much. We'd like to get another dog at some point, and I'm wondering what everyone thinks as far as how old the little man should be before we introduce "his dog." He's almost 15 months, now.

We're looking for a different house, so I'd definitely like to wait until we move, but I was thinking 2-3 years old for the little guy? I don't expect him to clean up after the dog and feed it and wash it and walk it and all of that - I just want him to be cognizant and understand how to treat the pet.

Any advice?

Parking Lot Pet Rant!

It's hovering around 60 degrees outside right now, but the Southern sun is still pretty potent. I drive a dark car with dark interior, and it was roasting when we left to run errands an hour ago. ...but, what did I spot in the grocery store parking lot? An unoccupied black BMW Z3 coupe with a full-grown Weimaraner inside. The driver's side window was cracked about two inches.

To the jerk, I say...

First of all - your dog is too big to be shut up in your suppository-on-wheels of a car. He was sitting in the passenger seat, and his poor little noggin was on the headliner. He looked lonely and cramped, and I hope he bites your ear off when you return with your Imodium and rash creams.

Second - it might be a nice day, but it is TOO FREAKING HOT to leave your pet in the car, even if you're running into the store for just a few items. This is the suburban soccer mom side of town - there is never a less-crowded time of day to go to our particular grocery store. No one works - they can all go to the store at any hour they please. I bought more items than would qualify for the express checkout lane, and your car was still there when I was loading my bags into my trunk.

If you have to run errands, leave your dog at home. And, if you aren't able to leave your dog at home, please leave the car on with the AC running - trust me, no one will steal your crapwagon.
