Sorry, Tor!
But I'm not sure who else to ask. If anyone else has had experience with this, feel free to chime in.
Basil has a wart on his muzzle, right under his nose. It started out looking like a teeny little pimple but is now HUGE. So huge that I've had to Photoshop it out of the last few photos I've posted of him. We took him to the vet to confirm that it was a wart and not a tumor or something scary. The vet said that it was, in fact, just a wart. When we asked if they could remove it, she said it was best to just wait for it to go away.
We asked how long it would take and she said she didn't know. Apparently, young dogs whose immune systems aren't fully developed are more susceptible to warts, and they usually go away when the immune system matures. That could take many months, or YEARS!
So, we want to get it removed, but the vet seems against it. Are we crazy to want to get this taken care of? Not only does it look gross, but the vet said he most likely caught it from the community water bowl at the dog park, and we can't bring him there until it goes away (because other dogs could catch it from him). Now, not bringing him to the park sucks for us as much as it sucks for him because he's a nightmare when he doesn't get his exercise.
Thank god it's not contagious to humans because he's so kissy that I'd look like a warthog.
Fabsugar told me that Annabelle just had one removed from her face, so I don't know why our vet won't remove Baz's wart.
Anyway, does anyone have any advice? Are there any at-home treatments we can do?

Aww, poor guy, he's still handsome even with his "beauty mark".
1I would imagine that your vet is advising against removal just because he would have to be put under anesthesia for the quick op and it's probably just not worth the risk. If it's purely aesthetic and not affecting him in any other way (other than being banned from the doggie park), it's probably best to try to wait it out.
Sorry I don't have any other advise
awww poor Baz!
2I don't have any advice but it'd be nice if the vet wasn't so against removing it.
I'm not a vet (although I do play one on TV), but I don't see why there would be any issue in removing it? Humans get them removed all the time.
Even with his wart, Basil is still adorable as can be.
3no dog park?! that is a fate worse than death! I didn't know dogs could get warts. It makes sence though. I don't really see what the problem would be either. The anesthesia idea sounds pretty plausible.
4lol @ Linz!!!
Aw, poor Baz! I think it's SO weird that your Vet won't remove the wart. You definitely don't sound crazy - I would be the exact same way if there was no other solution and we couldn't take Toby to the dog park. She said that it may take months or even years for the wart to go away - so you just have to wait that long until you are able to bring him back to the dog park?! That's just crazy. I don't have any great advice, but to just wait a little bit and if it doesn't go away - go back to the Vet.
I love his innocent look in that picture! He's too cute!
5whip- Wm's old Beagle had tons of warts and skin tags. I know he had the big ones removed and it didn't hurt anything.
6oh, and he kept getting them into old age.
7Awww Baz is such a cutie Whip!!!And no you are not crazy at all!I don't see any reason why you shouldn't feel the way you do. Personally i have no advice to give you and i don't see what the big deal is about removing his wart.Maybe you should try another vet and see what they suggest.
8Uh-oh, I really hope Baz doesn't keep getting them.
If it was purely cosmetic and nothing else, I wouldn't mind AS MUCH (but still a bit). It just sucks that it's such an inconvenience. Not being able to take him to the park sucks. And when we take him for walks, we have to keep him away from other dogs, which is hard because, first of all, there are like a zillion dogs in our neighborhood, and second of all, because every time he sees another dog he HAS to go over and say hello, or he'll cry like a little baby.
9awww! I wish he could meet Bodhi! they would fall in love!
10And then he'd give her a big ugly wart.
I agree, though, I think they'd love each other! He gets along very well with dogs that are close to his age and she's only a few months younger than he is.
11Yeah - I think the fact that he doesn't get to socialize until it's gone is reason enough to remove it. Doggies need that.
12AWWW poor Baz; he is still a little cutie (wart and all). I can understand them being hesitant to remove it if it wasn't interfering with his daily living but the poor guy has no social life now. I think it would be a good idea to check with another vet and get their opinion.
13Auggie had that once on his chin. It was a virus he picked up at the park. The damn thing kept growing and growing and got to be about as big as a grape. It fell off after several months. The vet said not to worry about it. Toward the end it was just hanging by a tiny piece of skin and he just rubbed it off on the carpet.
That was pleasant. Just have kleenex on hand when it happens.
14Strangely, after reading Sticky's comment, I am no longer hungry.
15Yeah, sorry about that.
The short version of the story is yeah, it'll fall off
on its own after while.
16Awww poor baby!!! He is still a sweetie
