So Basil has been a little bastard lately. He just will Not. Stop. Barking.
Our living room is on the 4th floor of our building and our deck is off the room. Every time he hears another dog barking in the neighborhood (there are a lot of 'em), or a siren, or church bells, or a car door slam, or whatever, he goes apesh*t. He runs out onto the deck and barks his little ass off. If the sliding glass door is closed, he just sits near there and barks.
It's driving us nuts. We can't figure out how to get him to stop. We yell at him and he knows he's not supposed to do it, but it still won't stop him.
I kind of thought about getting an anti-bark collar but I think that the shock collars are unnecessarily cruel. And I hear that the citronella collars don't work too well because after a while, the dog gets used to the burst of oil.
Has anyone dealt with this? Any suggestions?
"WOOF! WOOFWOOFWOOF! WOOF!! WOOWOOWOOWOOWOOOOOF!! WOOFWOOF!! WOOF!"
Bertie
It's usually either boredom, distress/anxiety, or fear that is the cause of the constant barking.
1Have you ever heard of this?
http://www.safehomeproducts.com/shp2/sc/shopexd.asp?id=392 I wonder if it really works!!!!
and I'm pretty sure you can rule out boredom and fear!!! So it's probably just the anxiety from hearing the other dogs.
wonder what they're sayin'
2Awwww.....you can't stay mad at that wittle face
I have no advice but good luck
3Goddamn their twee little faces!
I've done some research on remote controled shock collar dealies & they really don't hurt the yappy beasties.
The only thing I can suggest is calling the BazMonster's vet & asking if they have any suggestions & what they recomend.
4What would Cesar Milan do? That's all I can suggest. This is actually the only problem we've ever had with Bug, but we just let him go because we live in a house and it's not that big a deal and we have NO idea how to make it stop.
I would really like to hear what you guys try!
5We go through a little of this with Halo. It mostly happens when either the hubby or I go downstairs to the garage, and either leave in the car, or we are down there for a few minutes to do laundry, etc. Also, it happens when he notices us getting ready to leave. I feel he is having separation anxiety. Also, if the hubby goes out at night and he's not home by 9:00...Halo will bark at every car & noise he hears....even though he knows the sound of the hubby's car. Oh, and one other thing...when someone comes to the door...that's a nightmare.
I'm sorry I'm of no help.
If, you do find something that works for Basil, please let us know.
Until then, I'll send positive doggie vibes to the Baz & you.
6Whip, what I have been doing, and I should have said it above, is distracting Halo with a toy or a treat. I also praise him when he stops barking. It helps a little.
7I say get a squirt bottle & when he barks, squirt him in the face & say, "No bark."
The squirt bottle works wonders in our house!
8
I'll keep that in mind!!
9The citronella spray anti-barking collars and squirt bottles with water both worked really well with my dog.
10I used to mist Halo with water...my bottle didn't have a stream/spray thingie on it. He ended up enjoying it.
11The citronella collar works for Auggie, but not Dewey.
The shock collar doesn't hurt the
dog unless you turn it up too high. The best thing to do, even though it sucks, is test it out on yourself first.
If you wanna go super cruel, there is a surgery where they cut the vocal cords.
I think I like the squirt bottle thing. I need to find a way to stop Auggie from barking when we're not home. Gardeners and squirrels set him off like nothing else.
12Hi. My pup no's the "naughty bottle". Its a plastic bottle with a few stones in, when shes being naughty just one good shake and it done the job. I now only have to say "bottle" and she stops, if she doesnt I just point or pick it up.
13I used to use a squirty bottle but after my son found it funny to soak her it didnt work
The dog in your avy is gorgeous
My dog just ripped up a whole roll of paper towels so I
can relate
14My pup does this every day without fail from the hours of 9pm-12pm..its his "insanity" period...i've hired a trainer, no results YET i'm trying to be patient, the water bottle (he actually LIKES this, thinks its a game and tries to get the next squirt in his mouth) but my suggestion would be the water bottle, hopefully your dog doesnt LIKE it like mine.
